Jazz Rent: Integrated Car-Rental Operations, Billing and Compliance Platform
01 The Challenge
Car-rental operations combine identity checks, vehicle availability, legal consent, handoff evidence, billing, and payment follow-up. When these steps are split across paper, spreadsheets, messages, and staff memory, errors become difficult to prevent or audit.
- Booking conflicts: overlapping reservations and branch changes can affect vehicle availability.
- Pricing errors: overtime, extensions, daily caps, and extra-passenger rules may 3 be calculated inconsistently.
- Weak evidence: missing photos, signatures, timestamps, or notes make disputes harder to resolve.
- Operational gaps: KYC reviews, no-shows, debts, and incomplete handoffs can remain unnoticed.
The project required one auditable system for the complete rental lifecycle, not only a public booking form.
02 The Solution
I designed and developed Jazz Rent as a Laravel platform connecting the customer booking flow with a role-based operational back office. 4
Onboarding and KYC: Standard and social authentication, OTP verification, customer profiles, and protected access to identity documents.
Booking and availability: Location-aware vehicle selection, occupied-slot checks, pricing plans, and preserved booking-location history.
Rental lifecycle: Clear booking states, actual start and end times, check-in and check-out photos, notes, and digital signatures.
Billing and extensions: Exact time-based pricing, included minutes, overtime, daily caps, extra-passenger rules, and cost-optimal plan combinations. Transactions, row locking, and idempotency protect concurrent updates.
Operations and reporting: Filament resources, role permissions, activity logs, PDF documents, spreadsheet exports, debts, additional costs, reminders, and scheduled no-show checks support daily work.
Implementation note: The verified main branch includes Stripe Checkout. Saved cards, deposit holds, dispute windows, and off-session debt collection remain development work.
03 Business Impact
Jazz Rent consolidates the customer, vehicle, branch, rental period, evidence, pricing, costs, payments, and staff actions into one operational record.
- Fewer booking conflicts through location-aware availability.
- More consistent pricing through centralized billing and extension services.
- Stronger dispute evidence through timestamps, photos, signatures, and generated documents.
- Clearer liabilities through linked debts and additional costs.
- Better accountability through roles, activity logs, reminders, scheduled checks, dashboards, PDFs, and exports.
The result is a structured rental-operations foundation prepared for future multi-company or SaaS development.
